Overview
Fofo is an AI-powered digital memory and bookmarking platform. Users can save content from social media, websites, videos, articles, and other sources; the product categorizes that content, generates insights, and makes it searchable.
Problem
Useful references are scattered across social apps, browsers, and media. Finding them later usually depends on remembering where they were saved.
My role
Senior Software Engineer at Mailmunch (09/2023 – Present). Building AI-powered save, organize, and retrieval flows. Engineering the mobile and web product surfaces for capturing content from many sources.
Technical approach
Fofo treats saving as the start of a memory system: capture from many sources, organize automatically, then retrieve through intelligent search. My contribution is production engineering on the Mailmunch team building those AI-assisted save and organize flows.
Architecture
- Role stack: React Native, Expo, TypeScript, React, and Next.js
- APIs and data: GraphQL, REST, Node.js, and PostgreSQL
- AI: Assistant APIs for categorization, insights, and search
Technology stack
Key features
- Save content from social media, websites, videos, and articles
- Automatic categorization of saved content
- AI-powered insights
- Intelligent search for retrieval
Challenges
Capture from many sources
The product accepts content from social media, websites, videos, and articles rather than a single input type.
Retrieval over storage
Automatic categorization, insights, and intelligent search have to make saved content findable, not just stored.
Solutions
Save, then organize
Content is captured from mixed sources, then automatically categorized so the library does not depend on manual filing.
Search as the product
AI-powered insights and intelligent search are the documented retrieval layer over the saved library.
Outcome
Fofo is a live product at getfofo.com, focused on saving, organizing, and retrieving digital content with AI assistance.
